SGC Group Appointed UK and Ireland Distributor for Benelli and Franchi
SGC Group, the Devon-based distributor of sporting goods and firearms, has been announced as the new UK and Southern Ireland distributor for the Italian brands Benelli and Franchi. The appointment follows GMK’s decision to end its distribution agreement for the consumer market with the two brands, effective January 1, 2025.
Benelli and Franchi, both part of Benelli Armi S.p.A., are renowned for their innovative designs, exceptional craftsmanship, and high-performance firearms. This change marks a significant shift in the UK shooting trade, with SGC Group taking over from GMK, which has represented the brands for several years.
GMK’s Strategic Shift
GMK’s decision to relinquish the distribution of Benelli and Franchi comes as part of a broader realignment with its parent company, Beretta Holding. The company intends to focus on brands it believes better meet the specific needs of UK shooters, such as Beretta, Sako, and Tikka.
“Despite strong sales performance of Benelli and Franchi products, we must prioritise brands that align with the needs and expectations of UK shooters,” said Dave Barton, managing director of GMK. “Beretta, Sako, Tikka, and others have shown unwavering commitment to the UK market, working with our team through new product development.”
GMK will continue to represent Benelli for military and law enforcement sales, ensuring continuity for these key markets.
SGC Group’s New Role
SGC Group sees this new partnership as an opportunity to strengthen its position in the UK firearms market. The company will take over distribution of Benelli and Franchi’s consumer firearms range, including models such as the Benelli Lupo, 828 S, Franchi Affinity 3, and Horizon All Terrain.
Gary Lamburn, Managing Director of SGC Group, said:
“We are delighted to be appointed as UK and Southern Ireland distributors for Benelli and Franchi. These brands embody the highest standards of quality, innovation, and tradition, aligning perfectly with our commitment to providing customers with the industry’s best products and services.”
Aboo Cattran, Director of SGC Group, added:
“This partnership is a testament to our dedication to excellence and customer satisfaction. We look forward to introducing these exceptional products to our customers and providing them with the service and expertise they expect from SGC.”
SGC Group has pledged to ensure a smooth transition, offering expert trade support, maintenance services, and after-sales care.
A reshaped distribution landscape
The handover of Benelli and Franchi consumer products to SGC Group marks a notable change in the UK shooting industry’s distribution landscape. While GMK’s focus shifts to core Beretta Holding brands, SGC’s role as a distributor for Benelli and Franchi positions it to capitalise on demand for these premium Italian firearms.
