IWA 2025: Insights from Stefanie Leege

Gun Trade World (GTW): Stefanie, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. IWA OutdoorClassics has been an important event for the hunting and shooting sports industry for over 50 years now. Can you tell us about the unique role that IWA plays in this sector?

Stefanie Leege (SL): Thank you for having me. IWA OutdoorClassics is indeed a pivotal event for our industry. It serves as a global hub where manufacturers, retailers, and press come together to share innovations, discuss trends, and strengthen business relationships. What sets IWA apart is its comprehensive approach to the industry. We don't just showcase products; we provide a platform for knowledge exchange, professional development, and networking. This holistic approach ensures that every participant, whether they are a seasoned professional or a newcomer, finds immense value in attending.

GTW: The market for hunting and sports firearms is currently facing some challenges. How does IWA address these issues and support the industry during these times?

SL: It's true that our industry is experiencing a period of stagnation, with many manufacturers and retailers facing significant challenges. At IWA, we are acutely aware of these issues and have tailored our event to provide the support and resources needed to navigate these tough times. Our extensive lecture and supportive programs, such as the SHOOTING EXPERTS’ Stage, offer insights into market trends, regulatory changes, and innovative business strategies. We also facilitate direct interactions between exhibitors and visitors, allowing for real-time feedback and collaboration. By fostering a community of support and innovation, we aim to help the industry not just survive, but thrive.

GTW: One of the highlights of IWA 2025 is the focus on nurturing new talent. Can you elaborate on the initiatives aimed at supporting the next generation of professionals in the industry?

SL: Absolutely. We believe that the future of our industry lies in the hands of the next generation, and we are committed to supporting their growth and development. Our TALENT program is a key initiative in this regard. It offers international students and apprentices from the hunting, shooting sports, and outdoor sectors the opportunity to attend IWA with financial support for travel and catering. Participants can engage in panel discussions, present their ideas, and network with industry leaders. Additionally, our Newcomer Area provides a platform for startups and new exhibitors to showcase their innovations and connect with potential partners and customers. By investing in young talent, we are ensuring the long-term sustainability and dynamism of our industry.

GTW: IWA is known for its array of product innovations. What can visitors expect to see in terms of new products and technologies at the upcoming event?

SL: Visitors to IWA 2025 can look forward to an exciting lineup of product innovations across various segments. So far, many of our exhibitors contacted us in order to create product launches and presentations. Our dedicated areas, such as the BLADE Demo Area and the AIRSOFT Shooting Area, will feature the latest advancements in knives, airsoft equipment, and more. The BLADE Demo Area, for instance, will host live demonstrations, tabletop presentations, and the prestigious IWA Knife Award, which highlights the best in knife craftsmanship. The AIRSOFT Shooting Area will offer a revamped stage program and a new paintball exhibitor section, providing a comprehensive look at the latest in airsoft and paintball technology. These innovations not only showcase the developments in our industry but also provide retailers with fresh ideas and products to enhance their offerings.

GTW: How would you describe the overall experience of attending IWA for visitors? What makes it a must-attend event?

SL: Attending IWA is a driving experience that goes beyond a typical trade show. The exhibition is designed to be both informative and engaging, with a variety of activities that cater to different interests and professional needs. Our guided tours and virtual navigation tools help visitors make the most of their time, ensuring they don't miss out on key exhibits and sessions. The sense of community and shared passion for the industry is vibrant, making IWA a truly unique and enriching experience. For anyone involved in the hunting and shooting sports sector, attending IWA is not just beneficial—it's essential.

GTW: Given the current market conditions, what message would you like to convey to manufacturers and retailers who are considering attending IWA 2025?

SL: My message to manufacturers and retailers is one of optimism and resilience. While the market may be facing challenges, events like IWA provide a beacon of hope and opportunity. By coming together, we can share knowledge, discover new solutions, and build stronger networks that will help us weather the storm. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the resources and opportunities available at IWA to rejuvenate their businesses and stay ahead of the curve. Together, we can navigate these challenging times and emerge stronger.
